Special Delivery

Connor's 1st birthday is quickly approaching and he received one of his first gifts last week in the mail.  Mimi surprised him with his very own chair.  Connor loves using his chair already!  His favorite part is learning how to get in and out of it.  It is just the perfect size for him.  Here are a few pictures to show you how much he loves it!

So excited to be sitting in his new chair!
Checking out the letters of his name.
Perfect place to stop for a drink...
or to read a few books.
Thank you Mimi for the new chair!  We love it!

Straws and Ice Cream

Thursday night Connor had 2 more "firsts" that I wanted to share.  With all of these new things my baby is starting to seem more like a little boy!  I can't believe that he will be 1 in 5 1/2 weeks!

Connor can now officially drink from a straw!  His meal came with an apple juice box which I usually just pour into his cup, but I decided to let him try the straw and he loved it!  I know that sounds kind of silly to be excited about him using a straw, but we were all very excited about his new accomplishment! :)  He especially loved having apple juice not diluted!

It looks like he is doing more playing than drinking in these pictures, but I think he was just amazed that something so good came out of that tiny straw.
Connor also had his first taste of ice cream!  We really don't give him very many sugary things so getting a few licks from Daddy's ice cream cone was quite a treat!  You can tell by the smiles on the video that he definitely LOVED it!!

Hope you enjoyed these small milestones of my baby turning into a little boy!

Counting Our Blessings

Yesterday was a day for the books.  It was one of those days where you didn't know whether to laugh or cry.  Full of lots of events that I just had to share...

We all woke up exhausted.  Connor started crying around 2:00 a.m. and had a really hard time going back to sleep.  So we were all awake for what felt like a century.  When you aren't in the habit of waking up in the middle of the night it can make you a walking zombie the next day!  All of you parents know exactly what I mean! :)

Cole had scheduled some warranty work for that afternoon.  I spent the morning cleaning the house because I just couldn't stand the thought of making the workers work in a dirty house.  Half way through the cleaning I realized that I was about to have to clean again as soon as they left and asked myself what in the world was I doing? :)  We had one pipe leaking, problems with both our toilets, and a small problem with our counter top.  All easy items to repair thankfully.

I asked my mom to come over in the afternoon to hang out with Connor so I could make sure the workers got everything done.  I can't think of anything I dislike more than having work done in my house.  I am always thankful when the job is done, but having to see all the temporary mess is not my idea of fun.

When Cole got home form work we all went out to Jason's Deli for dinner.  We were going to take 2 cars so that after dinner Cole and I could do some shopping while Connor and my mom went back home.  As my mom and I pulled out of the driveway I saw Cole waving his arm for us to stop.  My suburban wouldn't start... not surprising since it has been in the shop 4 or 5 times this year.  I have started calling it a lemon, but Cole said you can't call a 5 year old car a lemon. :)  We knew it was too late to do anything so we loaded Connor up in my mom's car and just left it to take care of later.  We were going to all ride together, but decided we would take Cole's truck so we didn't waste time having to come home.

After dinner, my mom and I ran in to Hobby Lobby for a few quick things.  Cole and Connor waited for us in my mom's car while they listened to Dave Ramsey on the radio.  (Cole is starting Connor out early) :)    When we got back to the car we said goodbye and were about to head to the grocery store when my mom's car wouldn't start!  I was starting to think someone was playing a joke on us.  Two cars in one night!  On top of that all the jumper cables where in my car so Cole had to run to Target to buy some.  Cole got my mom's car started and we finally left for our shopping trip.  The funniest part of the night was after we got back home we found business cards on our cars for a local auto service store.  If they only knew how perfect their timing was!

I watched them tow away my car this morning and started thinking about all the events that happened yesterday.  As much as I wanted to be upset and frustrated with the situation I couldn't help but to be thankful for all that I have.   How amazing is our God that he can give us joy in all circumstances?

"Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

I opened my Bible this morning not really knowing what I was going to read.  The first verse I read couldn't have been more perfect for me.

"Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth." Proverbs 27:1

I wrote this extremely long blog not to complain about what happened, but to be an encouragement to always look for the joy in every situation.  This obviously did not have much to do with Connor, but don't worry I have some fun things coming.  Connor had 2 very fun "firsts" last night at dinner that I will share soon.  Here is a sneak peak...

Happy Birthday Nannie!

On Saturday we went to Colleyville to celebrate Nannie Hayden's birthday.  Her birthday was April 15th, the same day as Cole's dad!  So for the past 55 years they have shared a birthday!  This was also a special time because Nannie was able to be meet Connor for the first time.  It was also nice to spend some time with Cole's Aunt Debroah, Aunt LeighAnn, Jacob, and Austin.  We had a wonderful visit and can't wait to see them again soon!

PawPaw, Connor, Cole, and Poppa

Amy and Kate were also able to come celebrate.  We were so glad to see them again!

Nannie and Papaw gave Connor a cute Easter bunny and a new puzzle.  Connor loves his new puzzle!  It has different animals that make noises when you put them in the right spot.  Thank you Nannie and Pawpaw!

Happy Birthday! :)

I will leave you with one more picture to show you what Connor has been up to.

Tonight he decided to stand up without holding on to anything!  Once he realized he could do it, he kept practicing over and over.  Cole wants me to mention that he did it for him first.  Then I ran in the room with the camera of course. :)  I think we are one step closer to trying to walk.

Connor's 1st Easter

What a fun weekend!  Cole and I are blessed to have wonderful families and we loved all the extra time we got to spend with them on Easter weekend.  My grandparents were able to come spend part of the week with us and we had so much fun.  Cole's sister and her family also came in to town and we were thrilled to see baby Kate again! (Of course we loved seeing David and Amy too.) :)    Overall, it was a great first Easter for Connor!  I will leave you with several pictures to show you some of the fun we had.

Enjoying the nice weather and very excited to be outside in the wagon!

Connor and all his Easter surprises.  Can we say this boy is very loved or what?!

One more last thing just for fun.  My mom had saved my brother's first Easter outfit so we decided to try it on Connor.  Since their birthdays are only one day apart Connor is about the same age as Kevin was when he wore it.

Kevin- 1981- 10 1/2 months

The styles of course have definitely changed, but we thought he just looked so cute in his Uncle Kevin's outfit!

A Visit from Kevin and Rachel

We had such a fun time seeing Kevin and Rachel this past weekend.  Even though LA is so far away we have been so thankful to see them several times in the past year.  I think Connor might be helping us out with that! :)  Connor had tons of fun with them.  He immediately decided that Kevin was going to be his best friend.  Kevin could not walk through the room without Connor trying to get his attention or wanting Kevin to pick him up.  If they were playing on the floor, Connor wanted to be as close as he could to him.  It was so cute to watch!  Cole and I had never seen him act like that with anyone else.

Before they left on Monday, Rachel took some pictures of Connor in the bluebonnets.  They turned out amazing (like always)! :)  I put several up because they all seemed to show a different side of his personality and I couldn't pick just one favorite.

This picture is right before he stuck a handful of dirt in his mouth!

Happy 10 Months Connor!

I am 10 months old!
What I can do now that I am 10 months old:
-Pull up on everything!
-"Cruise" along the furniture
-Laugh whenever someone else is
-"Roll them up" when I play pat-a-cake
-Make my voice a lot louder when I want
-Eat just about anything
-Say "Dada Dada Dada" all the time!
-Like to play ball
-Love any toys that have wheels
-Roll my toy trains all over the floor
-Mimics any movements that Mommy or Daddy make
(But Connor really likes to be the leader and decide what movements to make.
Then have everyone else follow him!) :)

We just had a great weekend with Uncle Kevin and Aunt Rachel. More pictures from that coming soon! Hope everyone has a great week!
